Nuri M. Colakoglu
Nurİ M. Colakoglu, President, Dogan Media International
Nuri M. Colakoglu, born in Izmir in 1943, graduated from Robert College and took his BA in Diplomacy and International Relations from school of Political Sciences, Ankara. He has worked as a journalist & broadcaster and media executive since 1969. He has held positions in Turkey and abroad, including TRT Foreign News Department, German News Agency DPA, Sweden STV, German WDR Radio, Aydinlik Newspaper, BBC Turkish Section, Milliyet Newspaper London Bureau Chief and then News Editor and TRT General Manager Chief Advisor.
Since 1991 he has been involved in launching or restructuring a number of private TV channels - Show TV, Cine 5, Olay TV, NTV, CNBC-e, CNN Turk, Fenerbahce TV, Kanal D Romania and TEB KOBI TV. He returned to Dogan Media Group in 2002 as CEO & President of CNN Turk. Here, he served as the General Manager of CNN Turk, ANS International Production Company, CEO of Turkish Daily News, helped launch Kanal D Romania. He is currently the President of Dogan Media International and Advisor to the CEO of Dogan Media Group. He is also a Board Member of Kanal D Romania. He owns three private companies: One publishes books (InterMedia International Communication Corporation) and the other gives corporate publicity services (NMC New Media Company Television and Advertisement Corporation), MobilMedia (a company broadcasting to the TV screens in taxis and public transport vehicles).
He is involved in a number of NGOs –Executive Board Member of Istanbul Arts & Culture Foundation, Executive Board Member of Istanbul Modern Arts Museum, Chairman of Education Committee of Turkish Businessmen and Industrialists’ Association TUSIAD and Advisory Board member of Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture. After serving for ten years as the serving as the Chairman of TV Broadcasters Association of Turkey since 1988, he now serves on the Executive Board of the Association.
He has three children and two grandchildren. Çolakoğlu was assigned as the Coordinator of İstanbul’s 2010 European Capital of Culture application in March 2005 and was designated as the Chairman of the Executive Board after the agency was launched and resigned this post in February 2009. He is still serving on the Advisory Board of İstanbul. 2010 European Capital of Culture.
He has been appointed as the Advisory Board Member of Year of Japan in Turkey for 2010 by President Abdullah Gul.
